Dr. Anne Elise Richie

Mezzo-Soprano Vocal Soloist & Teacher

Mezzo-soprano Dr. Anne Elise Richie is a professional singer with over 25 years of experience as a performer and teacher. She is a graduate of The Florida State University, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and the North Carolina School of the Arts. A Metropolitan Opera District Winner, Dr. Richie studied in Italy and has toured in Italy, France and Germany. In addition to many concert appearances, she has sung principal roles in Madama Butterfly, The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, Pirates of Penzance, 1776 and Little Women.


After singing four seasons with the New York City Opera Chorus, Dr. Richie moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she taught and performed for nine years. Her teaching positions included Head of Vocal Studies at the Grammy Award-winning Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and Visiting Professor of Voice at the University of North Florida.

In September 2014 Dr. Richie moved to Milwaukee and joined the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music’s Vocal Arts Faculty. While a member of the Florentine Opera Chorus Dr  Richie sang in the world premiere of Sister Carrie as well as performing in Elmer Gantry, The Magic Flute, Die Fledermaus and Le Nozze di Figaro,

 

Her doctoral treatise “The Professional Female Singer and Career Longevity: Reflections, Choices, and Challenges” was published in 2013 and is available at https://diginole.lib.fsu.edu/islandora/object/fsu:183875/datastream/PDF/view.

Throughout her career Dr. Richie has taught students of all ages and experience levels. She has a special passion for helping aspiring high school students prepare for competitions and college auditions. She is a Master Adjudicator for the Wisconsin School Music Association and has judged a number of National Federation of Music Clubs festivals. Dr. Richie is also an active member of American Guild of Musical Artists, (AGMA), the National Association of Teachers of Singing, (NATS) and the Milwaukee Music Teachers Association, where she served as First Vice President of Programming before becoming a Board Member at Large in 2024.
